Rain that never quit, a car sick dog, howling wolves, these are only a few of the experiences that camping has blessed me with. Finding a puddle to wash out the sleeping bag that was christened by my car sick dog is not one of my fondest memories, although recalling my brother-in-law nearly burning down our tent is finally funny, thirty years later.

I am not the camping type. I wish I was. The thought of falling to sleep to the sounds of the forest seem delightful, but in actuality, I’m a chicken in the woods at night. Sitting by a campfire is one of my favorite things but when it’s time to hit the sack, I’ll skip the sleeping bag. Give me a bed!

When I was a child our family owned a pop-up camper. I adored snuggling with my sisters to stay warm on the bed that flipped out on one side. I still remember waking and seeing the silhouette of aspen leaves on the canvas above my head as the sun rose in the sky. However, that type of camper no longer appeals to me since I have decided that the flip out beds are the perfect dinner plate height for bears.

I have outgrown camping, BUT I’m all about Glamping! Glamping – glamour camping. Camping with the comforts of home – now that’s what I’m talking about!

My family’s glamping experiences began by accident. We are historical reenactors and once a year we travel down the road about ten miles and a couple hundred years. We set up our camp at Koh Koh Mah Living History Encampment each and every third weekend in September. Camps and their contents must accurately represent the 1750’s, thus historical glamping came into our lives. Our walled canvas tent contains a wood bed covered with wool blankets and quilts. Lanterns hang from ceiling hooks and sit on night stands and wooden chests keep anything from this century out of sight.

We haul a wood dining table and ladder-back chairs to our camp and shepherd hooks surround our camp with lanterns keeping the night at bay. It is comfortable and enchanting and creates a desire in me to recreate this in my own yard on a regular basis.

It’s this desire that has inspired my next contest, a glamping experience right here in my own yard. Let me tell you right at the start, my yard is awesome. We live on the outskirts of town. Our two acres are a delightful mix of rolling lawn, pines and mature maples in Kokomo Indiana. The land to the west and south of us are a mixture of woods and a corn field. A small creek meanders along the edge of our property and it is in this spot that you can enjoy your own glamping experience.

Here’s where your tent will sit.
You’ll enjoy this secluded little spot.

The winner of this contest will enjoy one night in a comfortable canvas tent and queen size bed perched near the creek listening to the sounds of the water babbling over the rocks and the frogs singing you to sleep. Your tent will have electricity for lamps or lanterns, your choice.

Just some inspiration.

You will enjoy a scrumptious dinner prepared for you at your own dining area in your hidden treasure. Your campsite will be private and relaxing hidden in the trees, but within sight of our home, so no need to fear the wilderness. A campfire will be made for you to enjoy and breakfast will be brought to your camp in the morning. (We will also work with any dietary restrictions.)

It could look something like this.

It will be lovely and relaxing and I will be certain to emphasize the GLAM in glamping. There may even be the opportunity for additional luxuries such as a massage for an additional fee.

The winner will be able to choose one Friday or Saturday evening from 3 available dates. Check-in time is 3:00 and check-out time is noon. Showering facilities are not available. A camp commode in a separate tent will be your facilities. This prize is for 2 people. You can bring your husband, sister or friend. The date of your glamping experience will be arranged with the winner to best fit your schedule.

If the winner is from out of town, we will assist with travel ideas. The nearest airport is Indianapolis International Airport.

The contest runs from Tuesday May 22 through Thursday June 28, 2018 at 11:00 P.M EST. The winner will be announced on the Breezy Porch Blog, Tuesday July 3.
